Behind this Loupedeck CT Profile

Hi there, I'm Vik, creator of this Final Cut Pro profile for the Loupedeck CT. I've been editing videos for over 20 years, and using Final Cut Pro X since the day it came out. Before moving full time into software development, I produced tons of videos for broadcast television and corporate clients. I still love to make videos, but since I'm no longer doing it full time, I was particularly interested in the Loupedeck CT as a way to speed up my editing workflow.

Right away after getting the Loupedeck CT, I went out and bought every icon set I could find, something to give me a head start on creating custom shortcuts. But I quickly realized that none of them were really made to speed up the editing process. They had hundreds of pretty icons, but this made the Loupedeck CT extremely cluttered and another thing I would have to learn. The whole point was to speed up editing, with shortcuts for the most common tasks that was slow to do via mouse and keyboard, but there was nothing out there that helped a newbie like me.

So I spent over two years creating what to me was a really great Loupedeck CT profile for Final Cut Pro. The official Loupedeck software was too limited, so I jumped into learning CommandPost and Lua scripting to make the shortcuts I wanted. Over time, I asked my editor friends to test it out and give me feedback. I finally got to a point where it was working really well for me, so I decided to share it with other Loupedeck CT owners.

Then right after releasing this profile, there were suddenly major software updates to Loupedeck, Final Cut Pro, and CommandPost. So I went back to the drawing board and recreated the profile again. You can read more about the updates and the quick installation guide in the blog. Thanks for checking out my profile, and I hope it helps you speed up your FCP editing workflow as much as it has for me.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need the official Loupedeck software?

No, this profile uses CommandPost instead of the official Loupedeck software. CommandPost provides more flexibility and customization options specifically for Final Cut Pro. You can still use the official software with other apps if desired.

  • Will this work with Final Cut Pro 11?

The profile has been tested using Final Cut Pro 11.01, CommandPost 1.5.2, and with Loupedeck 6.0.5 installed but turned off during use.

  • What if I want to customize the layout?

Full PSD templates for all buttons and banks are included. The installation guide walks you through how to customize any aspect of the profile in CommandPost. You can modify individual buttons or entire banks while keeping the core structure.

  • What custom effects are included?

The profile includes presets for voice isolation, music bed optimization, quick zooms and motion effects. It also includes the Alex4D Grow/Shrink plugin, a custom bounce animation, and an adjustment layer. All effects are compatible with the latest FCP version.

  • Is it easy to set up?

The profile includes a 5 minute install guide, as well as a detailed walk through if you want to dive in, plus general tips.

  • Is there a specific software version required??

The profile has been tested with CommandPost 1.5.2, as well as Loupedeck 6.0.5 installed on the same machine (but not running as it's not necessary). It is recommended to use this version of CommandPost to ensure everything works as intended with FCP 11, and you need to turn off the Loupedeck software while using CommandPost.
